Let's start baking!
Homemade bagels recipe Ingredients :
To make the homemade bagels, all you need is:
1 1/2 cups warm water
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
4 cups bread flour
1 tbsp granulated sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 tbsp baking soda
1 egg, beaten
2 tbsp poppy seeds or sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions:
In a small bowl, combine the warm water and active dry yeast. Stir well and let sit for 5-10 minutes, or until the mixture becomes frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread flour, sugar, and salt. Mix well.
Add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until the dough comes together.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a large bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until the dough has doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 425°F (218°C).
Divide the dough into 8-10 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball.
Flatten each ball slightly and use your thumb to create a hole in the center. Stretch the hole until it is about 1-2 inches wide.
Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the baking soda.
Gently place the bagels in the boiling water, 2-3 at a time, and cook for 1-2 minutes on each side.
Remove the bagels from the water using a slotted spoon and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Brush the beaten egg over the top of each bagel and sprinkle with poppy seeds or sesame seeds, if desired.
Bake the bagels for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
Remove the bagels from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
Say goodbye to store-bought bagels and hello to homemade goodness!
